The exhibition is based on archival materials that demonstrate the decisive role of the Soviet Union in liberating Europe from the destructive and criminal ideology of nazism. The Soviet people paid the highest price for the peaceful future of European countries – approximately one million Soviet servicemen lost their lives. The Red Army saved tens of millions of people. Captured by the nazisand their collaborators, they had been doomed to hunger, poverty, slavery, and genocide.
According to approximate estimates, millions of people across Europe were rescued from nazi occupation. Eleven European states preserved their culture and identity, national statehood, and sovereignty. Guided by the ideals of peace and stability in Europe as an essential requirement for the national security of the Soviet Union, our country not only liberated these territories but also assisted in restoring normal life in the liberated states. Aid was provided in the form of food supplies, mine clearance operations, and the reconstruction of infrastructure.
